Hanging and loose glass comes out of the frame before anything else, then the fragments in the track, on the sill and across the floor. Tempered glass in particular scatters right across a room and out onto the ground below. The debris goes with us; it does not end up in your bin.
If suitable replacement glass is not available for the first visit, we assess temporary boarding or another safe barrier. The opening, frame condition and access determine the securing method and whether the area can remain in use.
We measure the daylight opening and the channel depth rather than the broken piece, and record the thickness, the spacer, any coating and any tempering stamp. Getting that right on the first visit is what stops the new unit arriving a few millimetres out and going back to the shop.
We check the glazing requirements for the specific opening before ordering. Where safety glazing is required, we specify a suitable product. We can also discuss security-glazing options and their limitations for exposed entrances.
The new pane or sealed unit is seated on new setting blocks and bedded in fresh tape or sealant, the beads are refitted, and the perimeter is pointed so the frame drains outward rather than holding water against the glass. We cycle the sash and the lock before packing up, and the boarding leaves with us.
We photograph the break before clearing it, record the size and specification of the pane, and itemise temporary securing separately from replacement glazing. Your insurer decides whether the damage is covered and what documents are needed for your claim.

Occasionally, when it is a common size in plain glass and we have the sheet on the van. Most openings cannot, because the glass has to be cut, and tempered glass has to be heat-treated after cutting. That is why the first visit is about clearing and securing, with the glazing booked once we know the fabrication date.
A cracked pane needs professional assessment even if it is still in place. Keep people away and avoid operating or putting pressure on the damaged opening. Call us with the location and what you can see safely; we can arrange immediate dispatch when the opening presents an emergency.
That pattern is typical of tempered glass. Its fragments can still cause injuries, so keep people and pets away and leave hazardous cleanup to a professional. The technician checks the replacement specification for your particular opening.

A damaged sealed glass unit is normally replaced as a complete unit. The existing frame and sash may be retained if they are sound and compatible with the replacement. We inspect them before confirming the scope.
In most cases. We record the thickness, the low-E coating, any tint and any obscure pattern before ordering, so the replacement matches the openings either side of it rather than standing out. Older obscure patterns are sometimes discontinued, and where that happens we show you the closest current equivalent before anything is cut.
