“I called Build and Fix when I found that I could not open my back French doors this Spring! One side had dropped down considerably. I called and Max came over to look at the situation . It required taking the doors off and re-positioning them. We booked a convenient time and he came over virtually at the end of the day due to a longer spot before me but he stayed, completed the job even though it was 7:30 when he left. He was professional, cheerful and left the site immaculate. Mary at the front desk was my go to with questions and she too was always both helpful and on top of things. Communication with them was terrific. You never waited. The job was done definitely to my satisfaction. The price was reasonable . I’d definitely recommend using them for your needs!!!!”

You get a fixed quote once the opening is measured. Cost is driven by slab material and glass, size and handing, whether the frame comes out with the door, the hardware you choose, and any rebuilding the sill or framing needs.
On-site estimate visits are free for most jobs. We confirm whether your visit is free or chargeable before booking.
The work
We measure the rough opening, not just the old door, and probe the sill and studs for rot or movement. An opening that is out of square is noted before anything is ordered, because a slab machined to the wrong bevel or hinge spacing never closes cleanly. You get size, swing, handing and hardware prep confirmed in writing.
We go through slab material with you: insulated steel for security and price, fibreglass for a stable finish that will not dent or rot, wood where you are matching heritage trim. Glass inserts can be clear, obscured or low-E to cut solar heat on a west-facing entry. Commercial openings get a hollow metal or aluminium unit.
If the frame is sound, plumb and square, a slab swap is faster and cheaper. We transfer or re-mortise the hinges and bore for your existing lockset. If the jamb is rotted, spread or damaged, the full prehung unit comes out and the opening is squared first. We tell you which one your opening actually needs.
The unit goes in plumb, level and square, shimmed at every hinge and behind the strike, then fastened through the shims into the framing rather than into the jamb alone. The perimeter gap is filled with low-expansion foam, the sill is pan-flashed or caulked, and the exterior joint is sealed against water.
Locksets, deadbolts, handlesets and closers are fitted and adjusted so the door latches under its own weight without being pulled. We set the sweep and threshold height, cycle the door through a full swing, check the reveal on all three sides, and hand over keys with the parts and labour warranty.
Interior casing is refitted or replaced and the exterior joint is caulked and tooled so it sheds water. Bare wood units are primed on all six edges before finishing. We take the old door, the frame and every offcut with us, and vacuum the entry before we leave.

A slab swap into a sound frame is usually a two to three hour visit. A full prehung entry door, including removing the old frame, setting the new unit, insulating, sealing and refitting trim, is typically most of a day. Custom sizes and glass have to be ordered first, which adds lead time before the install date.
It depends on the jamb. If it is plumb, square, dry and undamaged, we replace the slab alone and reuse your frame, which costs noticeably less. If the jamb is rotted at the bottom, split from a forced entry, or has shifted so the door will not stay adjusted, the prehung unit is the honest fix.
Yes. We match the panel profile, glass style, colour and hardware finish so a single replacement does not stand out beside your other doors. If you are replacing a door with sidelights or a transom, we measure the full assembly so the new unit fits the existing masonry opening without rebuilding the surround.
Yes. We install hollow metal doors and frames, aluminium storefront entrances, back-of-house service doors and fire-rated units for offices, retail, restaurants and industrial buildings. Installs can be scheduled evenings or weekends so the entrance is not out of use during trading hours, and we can secure the opening overnight if the work spans two days.
Coverage depends on your policy, the cause of damage, any deductible and your insurer's assessment. We provide photos and an itemised invoice separating emergency securing from permanent repairs, and help answer repair-related questions at no added charge. Ask your insurer which costs are covered; we cannot guarantee reimbursement.
We take it away, along with the old frame if we replaced it, plus packaging and offcuts. Disposal is included in the quoted price, so there is nothing left leaning against the garage afterwards. If you want to keep the old slab or its hardware, tell us and we will set it aside instead.
