“Max was knowledgeable and honest about his work. We had a window crank that was loose and not properly working. Price was more than reasonable (I paid half of what the condo maintenance guys had quoted!!) And the patience of these guysssss!! Parking was horrendous in downtown toronto and he had to drive around for at least half an hour before parking. Thank you!!!”

“I am beyond grateful to the team at 24/7 Door and Window repair. My partner and I called them on Friday evening, frustrated as our casement window got stuck and the crank handle would NOT budge, leaving us unable to close our windows. I called 24/7 Door and Window repair upset and confused, and they were so supportive and kind. We had a window technician come to our place super quick (and we live in Durham region)! “Fast and reliable service. We needed to fix a broken window crank in a rush (required since our house was in the process of getting sold ). They sent a person on a holiday, took a look, explained the repair and got it done the very next day. We are super happy they helped us in such a rush. 100% recommended.”

“Window wouldn’t close or open as the lever to it broke. One call the technician came in a day and got the work done. Usually it’s difficult to get someone to do small work like this and they were ready to do it. It is a costly work but if you do not know how to do it and want it done immediately you pay to get the work done.”

“Our window was stuck, could not open it for a year, had two technicians diagnose it but they could not fix it. Tal spent time on it and figured what the problem was and fixed it in 1-2hours. Repair wait time 1–2 hr”

Cost depends on the handle or operator required, whether matching parts must be ordered, window access and any hinge or alignment repair. We usually arrange a free on-site estimate because these details need to be checked at the window.

01Separate handle failure from an operator fault
A loose handle does not always mean the mechanism underneath has failed. We check the handle connection, operator movement and linkage before recommending a replacement. If the sash is binding, the hinge or alignment problem also needs attention so a new operator is not put under the same strain.
02Identify the matching mechanism
Arm shape, mounting points and opening direction matter when matching a window operator. We inspect the existing hardware and look for any identifying marks. A similar-looking crank is not enough to confirm compatibility, especially on an older window.
03Repair or replace the affected hardware
Where the fault is a disconnected linkage or a serviceable handle connection, the repair can be limited to that part. A worn or broken operator may need replacement. We confirm the proposed work and parts availability after inspecting the window, rather than promising a specific replacement from a photo alone.
04Check the complete opening
We check sash movement, hinge operation, locking and contact with the weather seal after the hardware work. Cracked glass, a damaged frame or failed seals are separate issues; we explain them if they affect the repair rather than presenting a crank replacement as a solution to every window problem.

Why does my window crank turn without opening the window?
The handle connection may be loose, the operator may be worn, or the arm may have disconnected. A sash that is stuck can also overload the mechanism. We check which part has failed before recommending a handle, operator or wider hardware repair.
Do I need to replace the window if the crank is broken?
Not necessarily. When the frame, sash and glazing are in good condition, a hardware repair is often the appropriate scope. If the frame is damaged or compatible parts cannot be found, we explain the alternatives after inspection.
Do you repair awning windows as well as casement windows?
Yes. Both can use crank-operated hardware, but the operator layout and linkage differ. Send a photo of the whole window and the visible handle area so we can prepare for the visit. Do not lean outside or dismantle the mechanism to take photographs.
What should I do if the window is stuck open?
Do not force the crank, pull on the glass or lean outside to close it. Keep people clear if the sash or glazing appears loose. Call our 24/7 line if the opening is unsafe or cannot be secured; we can dispatch immediately for an emergency.
Can you match parts for an older window?
We inspect the existing operator and any identifying marks to look for a compatible part. Availability depends on the design and condition of the window. If a part must be ordered, we explain the timing and how the opening can be left secure while you wait.
