What affects the price?
We diagnose on site and quote before proceeding. Operator brand and age, whether sensors or controller boards have to be ordered, header access and lift requirements, and emergency attendance outside business hours all affect the cost.
On-site estimate visits are free for most jobs. We confirm whether your visit is free or chargeable before booking.
The work
What’s included
Fault diagnosis
We assess the power, controls, activation and safety sensors, then the door's mechanical movement. Similar symptoms can have different causes. We identify the fault on site and explain the repair options before paid work begins.
Sensors and activation
Header-mounted motion and presence sensors drift out of alignment, collect dust, and get confused by rain, sunlight and moving signage. We clean, realign and re-range them, replace failed units, and re-test the detection field across the full opening. Push plates, touchless switches, mats and card interfaces are tested and replaced as needed.
Sliding operators
Sliding doors run on carriage rollers along a header track with a belt drive. Worn rollers, a stretched or slipping belt, a seized idler pulley or debris in the bottom guide all show up as juddering, slow travel or a door that stops short. Parts are replaced and the door is re-taught to the controller.
Swing operators
Low-energy swing operators fail at the gearbox, the arm assembly and the spring pack, usually after being forced by wind or by someone pushing the door manually. We rebuild or replace the drive, reset opening and closing speeds and hold-open time, and check the door still opens manually with reasonable force when the power is off.
Safety checks and settings
Before we leave, the door is cycled repeatedly with the detection fields checked across the opening, the reopen function tested against an obstruction, and the speeds and hold-open time set so the door does not catch anyone. Break-out function on sliding doors is tested and reset if the panels have been pushed out.

Our automatic door is stuck. How fast can you attend?
A stuck entrance is treated as an emergency, and we can dispatch immediately, day or night. On the same visit we can usually get the door into a safe, secure state, either working, or manually operable and locked, even when a part has to be ordered. That way you are not standing an employee at an open doorway overnight.
The door opens on its own. What causes that?
Nearly always the header sensor. Motion sensors pick up rain, snow, blowing leaves, a swinging sign or even sunlight moving across the detection field, and their sensitivity drifts as the optics collect dust. Cleaning, realigning and re-ranging the sensor solves most cases. Where the unit itself has failed, it is replaced and the field re-tested.
Can you work on any brand of operator?
We service the common sliding and swing operators found on GTA entrances and carry general spares such as rollers, belts, sensors and pulleys. Brand-specific control boards and gearboxes have to be ordered, so we identify the unit from the header label and tell you the lead time before you approve the work.
Do you repair automatic doors or only replace them?
Repair first. Rollers, belts, pulleys, sensors, push plates and control boards are all serviceable items, and most faults come down to one of them. A full operator replacement is recommended when the drive unit is obsolete with no parts available, or when the header itself has been damaged past straightening.
Can the door be used manually while we wait for parts?
Only if an on-site assessment confirms that the particular door can operate safely in manual mode. The options depend on its design and the fault. Do not force a faulty door or bypass its safety devices. We explain any access restrictions and temporary arrangements while parts are on order.
Do you handle the safety sensors as well as the motor?
Yes, and they are part of every visit. Presence and safety sensors are what stop the door closing on someone, so we test detection across the full opening, check the door reopens on an obstruction, and set speeds and hold-open time before we hand it back. A door that only moves is not a door that is finished.
